REVIEW by Ginny: Kiss of the Goblin Prince by Shona Husk – Released Today! (@ginnylurcock)

Trapped for centuries in the bleak Shadowlands, Dai clings to his humanity with a thirst for knowledge. But now he’s free of the goblin curse, and some would say he knows too much—he can make nature bend to his will, influence the minds of others, and command magic. Yet love eludes him. Then he meets Amanda, a single mother with a sick daughter whom he feels compelled to protect. But could she possibly place her trust in the kiss of a goblin prince?

Ok, I’m just going to warn you right now. The first 15% of this book is repetitive as fuck. You will learn that a) Dai went through more than just a goblin curse b) Amanda is still recovering from her husband’s death c) Amanda has a sick kid. I swear, every page it’s “I’m still suffering from 2,000 year old wounds” followed by “I can’t have feelings for a man; I am a widow with a sick child.”
We get it, you both have baggage. Let’s move on now, shall we?
My first introduction to the series was via “Summons,” a short prequel that is available for free via kindle. I was hooked, and waited not so patiently for “The Goblin King,” which I enjoyed. It didn’t knock my socks off, but when I found “Kiss of the Goblin Prince” on Netgalley I jumped at the chance. Why did it take me practically 3 months to review it? Well, other books kept popping up, and the first 15% can be a bit tedious.
Stick with it though, trust me.
For current fans of the series, you’re going to love this one. I mean, I like Roan and Eliza, but Dai and Amanda… oh man. Ok, mainly Dai. Tortured soul who can do magic and is covered with tattoos? This is one of my literary soft spots. Dai had a lot of bad things happen to him, and he has to learn to let the past go, or it will ruin his future. It’s a valuable lesson, but a tough one to learn, and you struggle right along with him as you watch his journey. And did I mention he knows magic?
Amanda, for what it’s worth, is also a great character. She just couldn’t say “oh yeah, I used to hang out with dragons, no big deal.” She’s a dedicated mom willing to do whatever it takes to provide her daughter with a good life. Even if that means sacrificing her own happiness. As she gets to know Dai though, she realizes that isn’t enough, and she’s the first to cave in their game of romantic chicken. She also has a subtle strength that allows Dai to heal some of the damage done to his soul.
Throw in the reincarnated forms of three people from the Decangli life, lost magics, and whatever the hell is going on at the Birch Trust and you’ve got yourself one interesting journey. Also, there’s only one real naughty scene, which is towards the end and tame by today’s standards. In my mind this makes “Kiss of the Goblin Prince” a breath of fresh air in the Paranormal Romance genre.
Kiss of the Goblin Prince by Shona Husk is a solid 4.5 stars, and I cannot wait for the follow up.
