REVIEW by Ginny: Lifestyles of the Rich and Undead by Katie MacAlister – Released Today (@katiemacalister)

Ladies, be sure to catch our interview with the reclusive, oh-so-sexy Dark One Grayson Soucek, when he talks to our reporter about what it’s like to be one of the Otherworld’s most eligible (and titled!) bachelors. Gray dishes all on what he’s looking for in a permanent blood donor, his turn-ons and turn-offs, and what he likes on a date (hint—dinner in a romantic dungeon is one way to this vampire’s heart). It’s all in our next edition of Lifestyles of the Rich and Undead!

I have no issues with short quirky stories that are supposed to whet your appetite for some new larger piece of fiction you’re about to release. Funny little scenes that don’t really fit anywhere else in your book but might add something, or at the very least give you a sneak peak at the main character as he chases a ghost around while cursing, as long as you know that’s what you get going into things.

(and as long as they’re free… but I got this for free as an ARC so whatevs)

Once again I was unsure what to expect from this ARC, and once again it’s not what I got. What I did get was one of those super short, kind of fun scenes that you think up in your head and then pout about because there’s no where it will actually fit in your story. Being 20 pages, I can’t tell you much without ruining something, but what I can say is that I am glad that Trudy isn’t the main character in the actual novella that this sets up. Since I kind of want to stab her in the throat. The other thing I can tell you is that when a vampire chases a ghost with what may or may not be a deadly weapon (…can you kill a ghost…) things are about to get really good.

SCENE! *fade to black*

Le sigh. Literary blue balls. I haz them.

Guess I’ll be checking out “Undead in my Bed” to find out just what the effe this was all about.

But, for the record, I’ll be doing it under duress.

Because I’m waffling between 2 and 3 stars, I’m giving it 2.5 waffles. (And now I want waffles) It’s not a bad story, but it’s not a complete story either and it’s hard to rate it anything else.
