Almost one year ago, a Mage attacked Silver and changed the course of her destiny.
Immortals exist, and now she is one of them.
Within the dark and supernatural city of Cognito, Silver is living under the watchful eye of her Ghuardian and dating her mortal enemy. Neither man can protect her from a dark secret, one buried within the contents of a box. As rival factions struggle to gain control, she finds herself in the middle of a centuries-old feud that threatens to drive a wedge between her and Logan Cross, the man who intends to seduce her.
In an explosive turn of events, one life is saved and another is forever altered. Can Silver trust those around her, or are they hiding a dark secret of their own?
I always meant to do a review for STERLING AND TWIST, since the Mageri series by Dannika Dark became among my favorite urban fantasies. You know, life interferes, I’d probably have to re-read them to do a review justice (not that I’d mind re-reading).
IMPULSE, book 3, continues more of the same. If you liked TWIST, you’ll like IMPULSE. It continues to develop the relationship between the new Mage Silver, and Logan, her Chitah boyfriend. Actually, the entire book spends a lot of time developing Silver’s relationships with her eclectic bunch of allies, especially Logan, Justus, and new-comer Christian.
Christian’s a vampire, and a more interesting one than typical urban fantasy vamps. First off, he’s curt, amusing, a bit human in his emotions, and not a love interest. He’s powerful without feeling stupidly godlike. Overall, a take on vampires I totally buy.
Sadly, Simon, one of my favorites, takes more of backseat in this book. He’s often present, but rarely a focus. This is understandable, but I do hope to see more of his wiseass humor and antics in book 4.
IMPULSE felt like it moved a bit slower than previous books, perhaps because the focus shifts so much on the character relationships. Which said, I still enjoyed the ride a lot, and can’t wait for book 4. Silver herself remains a highlight, but I won’t spoil her laugh-out-loud funny lines and antics. You have to read them for yourself.
I give IMPULSE 5 phoenix hatchlings.
