REVIEW by Ginny: Wicked Kiss (Nightwatchers #2) by Michelle Rowen (@MichelleRowen ) – Released Today

I used to be ordinary Samantha Day, but that’s changed. Now, after one dark kiss from a dangerous boy, I can steal someone’s soul…or their life. If I give in to the constant hunger inside me, I hurt anyone I kiss. If I don’t…I hurt myself.

Bishop is the one whose kiss I crave most, but if I kiss him, I’ll kill him. Then there’s another boy, one I can’t hurt. One whose kiss seems to miraculously quell my hunger. They’re both part of a team of angels and demons that’s joined forces in my city to fight a mysterious rising darkness, an evil that threatens everyone I know and love. I just wonder if I’ll be able to help Bishop-or if I’m just another part of the darkness he’s sworn to destroy….

When angels and demons must work together, something beyond evil is rising…

Wicked Kiss

I really liked Dark Kiss. Like really really liked Dark Kiss. I know my review of it doesn’t really express my overwhelming love of the book, but ever since I finished it I would randomly find myself going “what was that book with the angel and the demon and the girl who was kind of a vampire but not and when does the next one come out…”

Trust me, I only do that with books I really really liked.

So when someone told me that Wicked Kiss was on Netgalley…

And then I just kind of held it on my Fire (named Prometheus’s Folly, as a clever aside) waiting for it, letting the excitement build.

Totally worth it.

Wicked Kiss picks up pretty much right where Dark Kiss left off Sam is trying to *spoiler alert for the first book y’all, and it ain’t something I’m willing to ruin.*

What I can tell you is that no matter how much Dark Kiss stuck with me, Wicked Kiss was better. There’s just more of… everything. The cards are all laid on the table. Begrudgingly. Usually only when Sam rips them out of someone’s hand and then yells “HA-HA, GOTCHA FUCKER.” But with those cards, Sam doesn’t just build a house… she builds a fucking amphitheater. And then for good measure she takes all the loose ends and crochets a quilt for the homeless. And oh man, the homeless. Wait guys, just wait.

Okay, I should probably say something other than “THIS SHIT IS FUCKING GOOD” or use my new patented method of getting people to read things (throwing copies at people as they walk by, in case you were wondering.)

There’s a lot going on in Wicked Kiss (and please for the love of God read Dark Kiss first) but it never feels rushed, or overly complex. Instead, all these pieces weave together to form what is probably one of the better YA series I’ve read lately. Sure, there are parts that are predictable. Some things you’re going to see coming from miles away while wanting to shake characters and yell “why can’t you see it!” There are other things though, well really one thing in particular that was setup in the very first book that I just never saw coming.

4.5 Stars. Like I said, it’s one of the better YA PNR books I’ve read. Good show “Wicked Kiss.” Jolly good show indeed.
