REVIEW by Ginny: Beyond Control by Kit Rocha – RELEASED TODAY! (@KitRocha )

She refuses to be owned.

Alexa Parrino escaped a life of servitude and survived danger on the streets to become one of the most trusted, influential people in Sector Four, where the O’Kanes rule with a hedonistic but iron fist. Lex has been at the top for years, and there’s almost nothing she wouldn’t do for the gang…and for its leader. Lie, steal, kill—but she bows to no one, not even Dallas O’Kane.

He’ll settle for nothing less.

Dallas fought long and hard to carve a slice of order out of the chaos of the sectors. Dangers both large and small threaten his people, but it’s nothing he can’t handle. His liquor business is flourishing, and new opportunities fuel his ambition. Lex could help him expand his empire, something he wants almost as much as he wants her. And no one says no to the king of Sector Four.

Falling into bed is easy, but their sexual games are anything but casual. Attraction quickly turns to obsession, and their careful dance of heady dominance and sweet submission uncovers a need so deep, so strong, it could crush them both.

Allow me to reenact my reaction to the news that the ARC was available.

Oh, is the new Kit Rocha (the dystopian erotica writing alter ego of Moira Rogers who is, in turn, the alter ego for Donna and Bree – best friends who are living the dream…) book out? Well… that’s nice. I’ll just… *breaks the speed of sound running from my computer t get my ARC just to realize I have to be at my computer so I speed back and miscalculate the trajectory to sit in my still spinning chair and crash making the loudest noise EVER in the history of FOREVER and end up having to request the ARC from the floor where I’ve ended up collapsing…*

I know there’s a warning on the series, but let me say it again. This series is graphic and explicit detailing encounters that are not always warm, sweet, and gentle and- frankly- don’t always just involve the two main characters featured in the romance. If reading about that kind of thing makes you uncomfortable, you’re probably not going to like this series.

Which is a shame… (oh hey, I just realized that’s kind of a pun based on the first book’s name…) because this series has been pretty fucking awesome so far. Donna and Bree have crafted this insane world where the apocalypse has hit but the populace hasn’t been decimated. In this new world, the fortunate live in Eden, a sparkling city with all the high tech modern convinces while the less fortunate live in the slums where… Well its slums. You get what you steal for. Honestly, it reminds me a bit of Midgar in Final Fantasy VII.

Oh, and if you really get the shit end you end up on a farm where you job is to grow food and breed. End.Of.Story.

While book one looked into Eden a bit, all you really get of it in book two is a few councilmen and their vices. This time around we’re looking more closely at what it takes to run a sector of the slums. The differences between the slums. And how the leader of your slum dictates your quality of life. Oh, and of course we get a peak at Dallas and Lex. And I don’t just mean the exteriors they have to show the outside world to keep order. Or even the little glimpses of their truer self that they show their nearest and dearest. No, we get to see the bits that they only show each other, or themselves, or that they ignore completely… but Donna and Bree are kind and show you anyways.

Hell, we even get to see where Lex comes from.

All while still giving us peaks at the previous novels couple and a glimpse at what’s to come in the future.

4.5 stars. Kit Rocha’s Beyond world is one to be reckoned with. At 400 pages, there’s a lot there, but I swear to you when you’re finished reading you’ll go “awww… is that really all?”
