THE AVON AFFAIR IS A 14-DAY AVON BOOKS REVIEW EVENT
ORGANIZED AND HOSTED BY CURRENT AND ALUMNI MEMBERS OF
THE AVON ADDICTS.
New York Times bestselling author Kerrelyn Sparks pens the next installment in her witty Love at Stake series, featuring a band of vampires and shape-shifters—and those who dare to defy them, or desire them! In Wild about You, a warrior on a mission of revenge encounters the woman who may just be the key to his survival. Too bad the beauty who could save him is also the last woman he should fall in love with. If you love paranormal romances by Lynsay Sands, Katie MacAlister, and Mary Janice Davidson, you’ll love Kerrelyn Sparks.
The premise of the book appealed to me-a werebear that has a gigantic crush on a home renovation television personality. Since I love watching those type of shows, I thought it might be something I would enjoy. As it turned out, it wasn’t near as good as I thought it would be.Or maybe I should say should be. Now I realize that this author is very popular and is not an indie writer, but I really do tend to like the indie paranormal books I read much more then the ones that aren’t.
This is the story of Howard Barr(yep she went there) and Elsa Bjornberg aka Elsa Amazon. They meet when vampire, Shanna Draganesti, decides to play matchmaker when she realizes Howard is smitten with Elsa. She has the show come and renovate the old gatehouse on their property. Just a few pages into the book, and Shanna tells about carrying her baby in front of the mirror and how strange it looks because she is invisible. Okay, I know that was Bram Stoker’s idea of a vampire but it just seems so outdated now. And of course the death sleep during daylight was used here too. I have just read so many good vampire or shifter books where the world building is so much more intriguing then being invisible in a mirror! I came really close to putting the book down but kept at it.
It was actually a quick, easy read, when I wasn’t picking it apart. There was some drama, some humor, some violence and lots of romance. There’s an ancient curse and a couple of older women that have some magical powers due to it-and oh yeah Elsa is involved with the curse too.I did like the curse part of the book and the powers involved. I just wanted a deeper story then this was, because that is what I am used to now. Keep in mind that there are about 12 more books in this series prior to this one and at times I was a bit lost as far as who some characters were but it didn’t take away much from the story. If you are looking for some light reading of the paranormal sort this could just fit the bill. I give it 3 stars.
