REVIEW by Lorna : What Kills Me by Wynne Channing (@Wynnechanning,@Mollykatie112)

The fight for survival begins.

An ancient prophecy warns of a girl destined to cause the extinction of the vampire race.

So when 17-year-old Axelia falls into a sacred well filled with blood and emerges a vampire, the immortal empire believes she is this legendary destroyer. Hunted by soldiers and mercenaries, Axelia and her reluctant ally, the vampire bladesmith Lucas, must battle to survive.

How will she convince the empire that she is just an innocent teenager-turned bloodsucker and not a creature of destruction? And if she cannot, can a vampire who is afraid of bugs summon the courage to fight a nation of immortals?

What Kills Me

Oh my goodness. I found a book I had never heard of, started it last night and could not put it down. What a great story this is and I definitely can’t wait for the next one. From what I can tell it has been winning some awards and definitely deserves them! It is classified as Young Adult although sometimes I wonder about that classification-I think it could cause some people to not read a wonderful book simply because it’s supposedly only for teens. And this book is definitely a wonderful book! Warning-There may be some mild spoilers coming up
.
Auxelia, or Zee as she is called, is seventeen and a exchange student from the U.S. living in Italy for a summer. Of course she meets a boy. But not just any boy, he is a vampire named Paolo, and while she is picturing a summer romance, he is picturing her as his meal. She is just sheltered and innocent enough, that she blindly goes where he takes her and proceeds to try to drain her. His mistake? Taking her to a sacred vampire shrine for privacy. She manages to fall in a well filled with ancient vampire blood. And when she emerges, she is a vampire. The story turns into a wild adventure, action packed and of course there is a really great love interest, a vampire named Lucas. Turns out, her change was foretold in the vampire world as the ONE who would take down the whole vampire world. Of course the vampire world is not happy!

The author has built an interesting world where vampires have their own empire and class system. I loved her characters and really enjoyed all the adventures that Zee and Lucas find themselves involved in. The Journey for Zee involves lots of violence, betrayals and death. But it also involves friendship, possible love and Zee learning to find her way in the scary new world she finds herself in. The ending was a total surprise to me and really made me excited about the next book. This series is now a definite must read for me. I give it 5 stars.
