REVIEW by @_Shoe_Girl_: Last Chance Beauty Queen by Hope Ramsay (

Dear Reader,
Gracious me, my beautiful daughter Rocky sure could use my help. I always knew she wasn’t much interested in the local boys – but who’d have thought she’d come home with English royalty?

Trouble is, Hugh wants to buy some of our folks’ land. We don’t want to sell, but Rocky’s job depends on her closing the deal. And though Hugh’s obviously smitten, I’m not sure he’s right for my Rocky. Oh, he’s classy and handsome – and you should’ve seen the way he judged pies and fixed stock cars at our Watermelon Festival – but what do we know about him, really? I know I sound like a nervous mother hen, but after forty happy years with my Elbert, all I want is to see my little girl find the same.

Well, time for me to quit chattering and get back to Miss Bray’s wet set. Always nice talking to you, and remember: the Cut ‘n Curl’s got hot rollers, free coffee, and the best gossip in town.
See you real soon,
Ruby Rhodes

REVIEW: The Wolf Gift by Anne Rice – Release Date 2/14/12 (@AnneRiceAuthor)

The time is the present.

The place, the rugged coast of Northern California. A bluff high above the Pacific. A grand mansion full of beauty and tantalizing history set against a towering redwood forest.

A young reporter on assignment from the San Francisco Observer . . . An older woman welcoming him into her magnificent family home that he has been sent to write about and that she must sell with some urgency . . . A chance encounter between two unlikely people . . . An idyllic night—shattered by horrific unimaginable violence, the young man inexplicably attacked—bitten—by a beast he cannot see in the rural darkness . . . A violent episode that sets in motion a terrifying yet seductive transformation, as the young man, caught between ecstasy and horror, between embracing who he is evolving into and fearing what he will become, soon experiences the thrill of the wolf gift.

As he resists the paradoxical pleasure and enthrallment of his wolfen savagery and delights in the power and (surprising) capacity for good, he is caught up in a strange and dangerous rescue and is desperately hunted as “the Man Wolf” by authorities, the media, and scientists (evidence of DNA threatens to reveal his dual existence) . . . As a new and profound love enfolds him, questions emerge that propel him deeper into his mysterious new world: questions of why and how he has been given this gift; of its true nature and the curious but satisfying pull towards goodness; of the profound realization that there may be others like him who are watching—guardian creatures who have existed throughout time who possess ancient secrets and alchemical knowledge. And throughout it all, the search for salvation for a soul tormented by a new realm of temptations, and the fraught, exhilarating journey, still to come, of being and becoming, fully, both wolf and man.

Single mom Heather Donovan’s dreams of home and family are tantalizingly within reach when she settles in Chesapeake Shores. Heather’s just about given up on her old dreams—of love, of family and especially of Driftwood Cottage, the home she secretly wishes were hers. REVIEW by @fidget78: The Secret By Julie Garwood (@JulieGarwood)

Judith Hampton was as beautiful as she was proud and loyal. Her dear Scottish friend from childhood was about to give birth, and Judith had promised to be at her side. But there was another, private reason for the journey from her bleak English home to the Highlands: to meet the father she had never known, the Laird Maclean. Nothing prepared her, however, for the sight of the Scottish barbarian who was to escort her into his land…Iain Maitland, Laird of his clan, a man more powerfully compelling than any she had ever encountered.
In a spirited clash of wills and customs, Judith reveled in the melting bliss of Iain’s searching kisses, his passionate caresses. Perplexed by her sprightly defiance, bemused by her tender nature, Iain felt his soul growing into the light and warmth of her love. Surely nothing would wrench her from the affection and trust of Iain and his clan…not even the truth about her father, a devastating secret that could shatter the boldest alliance, and the most glorious of loves!

FANFICTION REVIEW: Dead Wrong by Meg2

Dead Wrong is a fanfic follow up to the Charlaine Harris book Dead and Gone (the 9th book in the Southern Vampire Mystiery series).  Dead and Gone’s story arc came to a head with Sookie’s family ties pulling her into and being one of the main targets of the fae war.  Thanks to their blood bond, Eric is forced to endure her horrors simultaneously with her when she is captured and tortured mercilessly.  With the aid of silver bonds, Filipe de Castro’s insists that he not get the vampire race involved in a war that is not their own.  Of course, he wouldn’t be the Eric we all know and love if he didn’t do what he wanted when he wanted.  Unfortunately, he was unable to come to Sookie’s aid before the sadistic fae dup Neave and Lochlan had time to do a solid amount of damage, both physically and mentally.  Along with the damage to Sookie, the causalities of the fae war include her full-blooded fae cousin Claudine, werewolf  Tray Dawson and vampire Clancy.

Dead Wrong opens a few months after the events of the fae war.  Sookie is going on about her life flat-out avoiding all of Eric’s attempts to contact her.  Whether it be subconscious or not, Sookie is harboring some rough feelings regarding the events that took place months before and has a little resentment towards Eric, the man who was supposed to love her but was unable to be her knight in shining armor when she needed it most.  After he manages to make contact with her, Sookie starts to question a lot of aspects of her life.

REVIEW: A Game of Thrones by George R.R. Martin

Long ago, in a time forgotten, a preternatural event threw the seasons out of balance. In a land where summers can last decades and winters a lifetime, trouble is brewing. The cold is returning, and in the frozen wastes to the north of Winterfell, sinister and supernatural forces are massing beyond the kingdom’s protective Wall. At the center of the conflict lie the Starks of Winterfell, a family as harsh and unyielding as the land they were born to. Sweeping from a land of brutal cold to a distant summertime kingdom of epicurean plenty, here is a tale of lords and ladies, soldiers and sorcerers, assassins and bastards, who come together in a time of grim omens.

Here an enigmatic band of warriors bear swords of no human metal; a tribe of fierce wildlings carry men off into madness; a cruel young dragon prince barters his sister to win back his throne; and a determined woman undertakes the most treacherous of journeys. Amid plots and counter-plots, tragedy and betrayal, victory and terror, the fate of the Starks, their allies, and their enemies hangs perilously in the balance, as each endeavors to win that deadliest of conflicts: the game of thrones.

Review: Blood Bound by Patricia Briggs

Blood Bound is the second book in the Mercedes Thompson series by fantasy author Patricia Briggs. Car mechanic Mercy Thompson is a Walker, a being who can shapeshift into a coyote at will and see ghosts. A bonus to being a walker is that it also makes her naturally immune to vampire magics and deceptions.

Mercy owes her vampire friend Stefan a favor. When he calls in that favor by asking her to accompany him to a meeting with a vampire from out of town she agrees to go. After all he only needs her there as a witness and as she is to attend the meeting in her coyote form it’s not like she even has to speak or take part in the meeting….

When Mercy and Stefan arrive at the hotel where the vampire is staying the only thing that Mercy can smell with her coyote nose over the stench of vampire and death is Stefan’s fear. Stefan is an old and powerful vampire. Mercy really doesn’t want to meet the thing that scares a vampire of Stefan’s strength.

The new vampire is not just a vampire, it’s a vampire possessed by a demon. Utterly evil, it murders for its own entertainment as well as for blood. Stefan and Mercy survive the meeting but they were no match for the demon possessed vampire who escaped. Mercy is called to give testimony to the vampire leader Marsilia that there is a demon possessed vampire on the loose in the Tri-Cities.

The vampires and the local werewolves form a small team to track and capture the demon possessed vampire but when they all fail to return Marsilia orders Mercy to join the hunt. It is up to Mercy to succeed in finding and destroying the demon ridden vampire before any more people, including Mercy’s friends, die.

With the aid of his other demon niece Diantha, Mr. Cataliades soon discovers that Gladiola has met her demise when they find her body on Sookie’s property. While Mr. Cataliades and Diantha say their goodbyes to Gladiola, Sookie runs around town making the last minute arrangements to prepare for her absence. Review: Dead to the World by Charlaine Harris

Dead to the World opens on New Years Eve. After a long night working at Merlotte’s, Sookie is on her way home pondering her recent break-up with Bill Compton when she sees a man running down the side of the road. Review: Club Dead by Charlaine Harris

Club Dead is the 3rd installment in the Sookie Stackhouse series.  The honeymoon period is over.  Sookie and Bill are somewhat at odds as Bill gets more and more engrossed in a secret project that Sookie is not allowed to know about.  All of their free time is spent with him glued to his computer and Sookie’s patience is wearing thin.  Things are made that much worse when Bill tells her that he has to take an impromptu trip to Seatle for his secret project.  Soon after he leaves, Eric, Pam and Chow pay Sookie a visit and she soon finds out that things are not all they seem.  Bill had lied about the Seatle trip and is now missing.  With the assistance of rugged man’s man (and werewolf) Alcide Herveaux, Sookie is off on an adventure to Jackson Mississippi in an attempt to track down and rescue Bill.
